Warnings Regarding Large Precincts and Absentee Ballots

 

ATLANTA— Georgia Election Protection has over 650 trained volunteers ready to staff its toll-free voter assistance hotline (866-OUR-VOTE), to work as mobile legal volunteers and poll monitors on Election Day.

 

• Voters are encouraged to vote at non-peak times on Election Day. 10am - 11am  and 2pm - 4pm.

 

• If you need a ride to the poll, call:  404-524-VOTE or 1-877-524-VOTE!

 

• No voting is allowed on Monday, November 3rd. Your last chance to early vote is Friday, October 31st.

 

• If you have not received an absentee ballot yet, go to your county registrar's office or advance voting site and ask to vote by regular ballot. You will have to tell the poll worker you did not receive your absentee ballot by mail and you will have to complete an affidavit, swearing you did not receive it.  If you need assistance, call 866-OUR-VOTE, a trained volunteer is ready to take your call.

 

• Georgia Election Protection wants to alert citizens who are registered to vote in large precincts (3,000 or more voters) that lines will be very long on Election Day.

 

• If your precinct is listed below, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO EARLY VOTE ON FRIDAY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. County election officials have targeted these large precincts and have encouraged early voting too.

You should also check to make sure you are registered in the right area to vote on Election day. If you have moved or if you registered before but never received a voter registration card now is the time to check your information. DON’T WAIT UNTIL ELECTION DAY! Log onto www.sos.ga.gov/elections. Click on the Poll Locator banner on the right side of the page. Fill in your information and submit. Your information should come back with the location of your polling place. If it does not you may not be registered. Contact the Election Supervisor for your county.

When it’s Time to VOTE

There is more than one way to vote in the election. You don’t have to wait until November 4th. You can vote during ADVANCED VOTING or you can ask for an ABSENTEE BALLOT to be mailed to you now and you can mail in your ballot before November 4.

Absentee ballots must be received by the county board of registrars' office by 7:00 p.m. on election day. No absentee ballots are issued on the day before or the day of an election. You may download an application by clicking on this link: application for official absentee/advance ballot and mail, fax or deliver in person to your county board of registrars' office. The application must be in writing and contain the address to which the ballot is to be mailed, sufficient information to identify you as a voter, and the election in which you wish to vote - no reason is required when requesting an absentee ballot by mail. If you are physically disabled or living temporarily outside your county of residence, a close relative (mother, father, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, spouse, son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law , brother-in-law, or sister-in-law who is 18 or over) may apply for an absentee ballot for you. The absentee ballot shall be mailed to the voter.

Advance Voting in Georgia

Advance voting allows any registered voter to cast a ballot IN PERSON during the week of October 27 through October 31, 2008 the Monday through Friday of the week prior to the election.

Go to the advance voting office in your county, you must fill out an application and bring an approved photo id with you. Go to this link to find out about the permitted forms of Voter Identification. You will then be issued a ballot that must be filled out and cast while you are in the office.
