American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk Set for October 25 in Atlantic Station
When an expected 12,000 walkers gather in Atlantic Station for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Saturday, October 25, they will not only be helping the American Cancer Society celebrate the 10th anniversary of Making Strides in Atlanta – they will literally be taking steps to fight breast cancer by raising funds and awareness for the disease. In the decade since Making Strides was launched in Atlanta, there have numerous milestones in the battle against the disease that strikes nearly 200,000 women – and about 1,100 men – every year. But the incidence and death rates are still high: The American Cancer Society expects 182,460 women to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, including 4,910 in Georgia. Of those, 40,480 will die, including 1,110 in Georgia, according to ACS.
“We urge all Atlantans, women and men, to come out and walk in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” said Audra Wallace, Atlanta Making Strides Manager. “Breast cancer isn’t just a woman’s disease; it’s a disease that devastates families and lives. So everyone has a reason to take action, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is an excellent way that everyone can do their part to take steps against this terrible disease.”
